Raised in Nashville, TN, the heart of country music, Stinson grew up with musical influences all around him. Around he landed a gig touring with Dottie West. After a while, he left Nashville behind and made the big move to sunny California.

He put together a band of his own there, Silver. The group managed to do okay, even landing a chart-making hit, but Silver turned out to be a short-lived effort. By the mid-'80s, Stinson was back in Nashville on comfortable old-home soil and working on albums with singers like Lyle Lovett.
